5 Key Questions To Help You Create Successful Adverts
Creating successful adverts can take some effort and practice. And if you get it wrong it can end up costing you money without delivering any return. No one wants to invest in advertising that isn’t working, so how do you make sure that it does? Simply by asking yourself some key questions. Call it a check-list if you like, but these questions can help you to create more effective adverts for your business. Is the advert generating a response? The point of advertising is to get your name out there and to get people to show their interest in what you have to offer. Every advert you run should generate some sort of response. If it doesn’t, then you need to consider what you can change. As a small business you cannot afford to have adverts running that are not generating a response. Big businesses may be able to write off advertising as a brand building exercise, but small businesses can’t afford that luxury. Your adverts must work for you.Is the advert reaching the right people?

When you advertise you should have a specific target market in mind. The advertising medium you choose should be one that gives you access to that target market. If you find that you are not getting a response from the right people then it could be that your advert is not on target. Check that the publications, newspapers or other mediums you are using actually get seen by the people that you want to target.

Is the advert in the right publication?

The publication you have chosen may be going out to the right target market, but the type of publication may be so jam packed with other adverts that your advert doesn’t get seen.  Or the publication may come out at the wrong time of year when people don’t have money to spend. Finding the right publication is about more than just matching the demographics of your target market. You need to make sure that the publication will showcase your advert effectively so that you get a good response.

Is the message right?

The wording of your advert can make a big difference to your response rate. In a classified advert you have only a few lines to capture the reader’s attention so your headline needs to be really strong. You need to have a unique selling point and a call to action. The wording and type of message you use will depend on the type of advert and the publication. Make sure that you understand what will work best for different forms of advertising so that you create the right message.

Is the offer right?

Of all the components of advertising this is the most important. If your offer isn’t right people won’t respond. You need to be really clear on what you are offering and you need to make sure that it is something that your audience wants.

Often if you find that your advert isn’t giving you a response it could be that you just need to tweak one or two things. Maybe change your wording to have a stronger headline. Maybe you need to adapt your offer to make it more attractive. Test your adverts and experiment with different formats and wording. Advertising does work if done properly. Often it’s small changes that can make a big difference to your response.
